Having a two-storey extension built is a big undertaking, and ours certainly came with its fair share of challenges. We hit an unexpected issue with Yorkshire Water pipework while digging the foundations, and Owen was the only person who seemed genuinely interested in finding a solution rather than seeing it as a reason to walk away. He liaised directly with Yorkshire Water and came up with an alternative foundation strategy that kept the project moving.
The end result has completely transformed our home and the way we live. Our new kitchen has become the social hub of the house, we finally have the space to entertain friends and family, and there’s now comfortable additional space for relatives to stay when they visit. Even my mother-in-law comments on the quality of the workmanship every time she’s here!
Building work is always disruptive, but Owen and the team at Farswood Construction made the process as smooth as possible, kept us informed throughout, and delivered a fantastic finish. Starting any building project is daunting and it’s imperative to find the right company for the job. We were looking for a well-established company with an excellent reputation for outstanding work. We found this in Farswood Construction. From our first meeting with Owen, we felt confident that he understood the size and scope of the project ahead – a complete refurbishment of our home. The whole house was literally taken back to the brickwork and then rebuilt with a dining/kitchen extension and a dormer bedroom. Five months after starting, the rebuild was complete. We were absolutely thrilled with the result. Owen's team had been on site almost every day, and on the few days they weren’t on site, we were informed beforehand. Without exception all the contractors were friendly, hardworking and enthusiastic about the project. The quality of their work was outstanding. They were clean workers too – every evening, after work had finished, the site was tidied. Owen kept a very close eye on every aspect of the work and coordinated all the various contractors needed for the job. When something unexpected happened, Owen was there to suggest solutions and guide us as to the best options. He had a real sense of vision. He was calming when we were jittery and patiently answered all our many questions!! Most importantly, Owen kept us up to date regarding the budget. I am so chuffed with our new home, and it’s huge thanks to Farswood Construction for their care, guidance and hard work that we have it. It was a big project! A two-storey side and rear extension to take our tiny galley kitchen into a lovely open-plan kitchen-diner with a utility room and downstairs toilet attached, plus a new bedroom with en-suite above. I also had the loft converted at the same time to add a further bedroom with en-suite bathroom in the attic, which necessitated the ceilings in the bedroom and landing below to be lowered.
I needed to get our work done in a couple of main stages as my budget allowed, and this was not just accommodated without any issues, but I was advised on how to do this in the most economical way.
I found Owen at all times to be honest, trustworthy and reliable, and those he contracted to work on our home to be kind, helpful and good at what they do. I felt that we were treated like human beings and that those involved had a positive attitude – I’ve not had any building work done before, and the teams were happy to advise when I needed some help with making decisions.
I don’t know any building project where there isn’t some sort of an issue which crops up at some point – but it’s how it’s dealt with which is key. At all times Owen and those working for Farswood were focused on practical problem-solving and we are absolutely delighted with the results.
